This bronze is a maquette for the large-scale sculpture in front of the Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists (Roxbury, Massachusetts). While this work was originally conceived as an edition of ten, only two casts have been made and the mold no longer exists. The other cast of this maquette is at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum (Lincoln, Massachusetts).
