Note:
Recently, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston acquired an oil Self Portrait by John Wilson painted in 1943. When the conservation department x-rayed the painting, they found that Wilson had changed the position of his head and gaze. This drawing appears to be the study for the original concept of the MFA’s Self Portrait.
